Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure wherein pencil sized instruments are inserted into joints thereby visualising interior of the joint and various conditions affecting joint structures like cartilage,ligaments and synovium can be treated successfully through small 1cm skin incisions. . Rehabilitation will be faster with minimally invasive surgery and complications associated with open surgery like stiffness can be avoided.
Disorders those can be treated by arthroscopy :
Shoulder :
- Rotator cuff repair for acute or chronic tear of rotator cuff
- Bankarts repair for recurrent dislocation of shoulder
Knee :
- Synovectomy for inflammatory conditions of knee
- Removal of loose bodies from conditions affecting bone or cartilage
- Repair of meniscus tears
- Reconstruction of anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments injuries with instability of knee .
